Hello West Rocks!

This is it…the last week of school! 

We had a great week as our 6th graders went on a field trip to the Museum of Natural History in New York City! Thank you to our Grade 6 Team Leader Dr. Walters and all the grade 6 teachers for planning a great experience – a few of the pictures are above.

There is so much happening with grade 8 as they finish their middle school careers! Please see information below and continue to look for communication from our Grade 8 Team Leader Dr. Golding. 

To celebrate Pride Month, we held our annual Pride Parade on Tuesday, June 4. Thank you to all students and staff that helped to make this event a success. A special shout out to The Triangle Community Center who spoke along with a few student volunteers. Our grade 7 students enjoyed extra recess and a visit from the ice cream truck on Wednesday. Thank you to our PTA for providing this fun experience to close out the year! 

On Tuesday, students in the dual language program watched a performance from the NICE organization! The Puerto Rican Bomba Plena Performance had six artists in the performing group – music, dancing, video, and more! This Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14 are 2-hour early dismissals. Students are dismissed at 12:50 pm. The last day of the school year is this Friday, June 14.

EVENTS AND GROUPS

Grade 8
Only 2 days left! The West Rocks Middle School Class of 2024 Promotion Ceremony is Tuesday, June 11 @ 7:30 pm in the Concert Hall at Norwalk’s City Hall on East Avenue.

Grade 8 students had a busy week! They signed yearbooks during a visit from the ice cream truck (Thank you PTA!), turned in their devices, had a blast at the pre-promotion party on Thursday, had their first promotion practice, and had 30 different student winners in the raffle! 

Thanks to the fundraising throughout the year and generous donations from families, we were able to give away over $1500 in prizes to our Class of 2024! The live raffle on Friday afternoon was intense…congrats to all the winners! 

The next two days will be packed! Please review my Promotion Parent Square Post for more information and continue to look for communication from Grade 8 Team Leader Dr. Golding.

Final Mile @ West Rocks on Thursday, June 13 – Running Club! 
West Rocks very own ‘Final Mile’ will happen on Thursday, 6/13 at 1:30 pm. The finish line will be on the Aiken Street side of the school! (Any running club eighth graders can still participate! They should aim to be at school around 1 pm and can check in with Ms. Mouland in room 133.)
 
After the students run their mile, they will get their medal, take a group photo, and then have snacks to celebrate all the effort and miles they completed! Some parents have already reached out wanting to donate items for the runners. Please let Ms. Mouland know if you're willing to donate snack food, water, or Gatorade! Current Grade 6 (Next Year’s Grade 7) – Nature’s Classroom in the Fall! 
During the 2024-25 school year, 7th graders (current 6th graders) will be attending Nature's Classroom at Camp Eisner in Great Barrington, MA on Wednesday November 6 - Friday November 8th. We are very excited to share this exciting educational experience with students and families.

Chromebook and Charger Collection, Library Returns

The last day to return all books and Chromebook loaners borrowed from the WRMS Library was Friday, 5/31. Students may review their accounts by using Destiny (via Classlink) and clicking on the MY INFO option. Need help or have a question? Contact Sandra Mackowski (mackowskis@norwalkps.org).

All students will return their Chromebook and charger before the end of the school year. We will assess, repair, and replace what is needed for the fall. Please note there will be a cost if there are missing Chromebooks as well as chargers. 

• Lost Verizon Device $350
• Lost loaner Chromebook $100
• Lost charger $20

Remaining collection dates are below:

• Grade 7 – Tuesday, June 11
• Grade 6 - Wednesday, June 12

High Dosage Tutoring Program in July Based on specific academic criteria, some students have been invited to attend a High Dosage Tutoring Program this summer at West Rocks. Transportation is provided, and there will be literacy, math, and enrichment. Please be on the lookout for communication from Mrs. Amaral if your child qualifies.    Summer Learning Assignments All students must complete these Summer Learning Tasks before the start of next school year! They will all receive a hardcopy, and our feeder elementary grade 5 students will get a visit from our literacy coach Ms. Sabol this week!  PTA UPDATE AND UPCOMING DATES The PTA is providing a visit from the ice cream truck for each grade level to celebrate a great school year!
