WRMS Weekly Update 5/4/25

Hello West Rocks! 

I cannot believe it is officially May! Thank you to our PTA for putting on their Annual Pizza Truck Event yesterday! The weather was amazing and there was great food, music, and games! 
 
Congratulations to Mrs. Jean and the members of the band for their concert at City Hall on Wednesday. Each grade level band performed and showed why we have the best middle school band in the city! Next stop is the Memorial Day Parade for our marching band! Check out a picture from the Wednesday night above.
 
This is an important week at West Rocks…we have a Superhero Spirit Week as we prepare our students to take the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA). This is our state test that students demonstrate their progress according to State Standards in reading and math. Our grade 8 students will also take a science test. Check out our themes below! Start by wearing your favorite superhero gear Monday. 

We kick off our testing on Wednesday with reading. Be sure your student gets a good night’s sleep, come with a charged Chromebook, and they try their best! Our teachers have been goal setting with students over the last week or so. Ask them about their target! Stay tuned for more information and incentives on Monday! 
 
This week is also Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! Our PTA has something special planned each day as we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our teachers and staff. Please consider joining us in showing your appreciation with a note, kind word, or small gesture. Every bit of gratitude makes a big difference!
 
As we prepare to close out the year, please continue to check our website for events and important dates. There is a lot happening!

Congratulations to the members of our travel soccer and volleyball teams for a successful start to the season. Each team continues their games this week at West Rocks on Wednesday and Thursday. Good luck!

It's that time again! The WRMS Library is hosting its Spring Book Fair from Monday, 5/5 to Friday, 5/9. All students will be visiting the Book Fair during their ELA classes that week.
