Roller Skating Event (7 sec clip)

Hello West Rocks!

Happy Mother's Day to all our wonderful mothers and mother figures in our school community! Your love, dedication, and tireless support make a world of difference in the lives of our students. Today, we celebrate you and the countless ways you nurture and inspire those around you. Wishing you a day filled with joy, love, and cherished moments with your loved ones. Thank you for all that you do! #HappyMothersDay

We had a busy week…and it will continue through the end of the school year!

With support from our PTA, we showed our Teachers and Staff our thanks for all their hard work throughout the week during their Appreciation Week!

Students performed well at the Chorus and Orchestra concert on Wednesday. Thank you to our directors Dr. Golding and Mr. Ullman for a great year. It is amazing to see and hear the growth of our students over time.

Students in our Marine Science Program went on field trips this week to Calf Pasture Beach! Be on the lookout for pictures from our Program Leader Ms. Amanda Lewis!

Finally, on Friday evening, we had almost 160 students participate in our first ever Roller Skate Event! SoNo Entertainment set up a special floor, had a DJ and lights, and the students were able to roller skate for an hour! What an amazing time! An image and quick video are above!

Have a great rest of your Mother’s Day,
Adam Reynolds
Principal, West Rocks Middle School

PS. Tomorrow, Monday, May 13 is a 2-hour early dismissal for students (12:50 pm). Teachers have professional development. Please continue to check the district calendar as we close out the year. (https://www.norwalkps.org/about/district-overview/official-district-calendar

ACADEMICS, PROGRAMS, AND CAMPAIGNS

Smarter Balanced Assessments – THIS WEEK!
Students will take the ELA Reading portion of the Smarter Balanced Assessments on Tuesday and Wednesday in homerooms. This is a very important statewide test that students show their progress toward grade level proficiency. These results are used to help guide course selection, intervention, and acceleration. On Thursday, students will complete the Math Performance Task portion.

Students need to come prepared with a charged Chromebook and a good night’s rest. Please support us by encouraging your students to do their best on this very important test!

Grade 8 – This week!
  • This Tuesday, May 14, we will have a virtual parent informational meeting at 7:00pm to review the end of the year and Promotion Ceremony. The ceremony is in the Concert Hall at Norwalk City Hall on June 11 and begins at 7:30pm. Grade 8 Team Leader Dr. Golding will send out a link for Tuesday’s meeting.
  • This Friday, May 17 is our 8th Grade Semi-Formal Dance from 6:30-9:00 pm! The PTA is sponsoring this special event, and the theme is a “Sneaker Ball!” Students must turn in a signed permission slip to purchase a ticket for $10. There will be a light dinner from 6:30-7:00 in the cafeteria, then dancing in the gymnasium until 9:00 pm. Students must purchase tickets in school this week. No tickets will be sold at the door. Stay tuned for more details!
  • Grade 8 families will get regular communication from our Grade 8 Team Leader Dr. Sara Golding throughout the end of the school year.
