Hello West Rocks!

Welcome back to our grade 8 students that were in Boston! Our students and staff spent Thursday and Friday in the city! They explored historic sites and visited the Freedom Trail, the Boston Tea Party Museum, had a private tour of Fenway Park, dined and shopped in Quincy Market and traveled to the top of the Prudential Center to View Boston! Friday was the last day in April and there was a lot of BLUE in the hallways! Thank you to everyone that supported our efforts to raise awareness and acceptance of Autism throughout the month of April.

There is a 2-hour early dismissal for students on Monday, April 29 (12:50pm) and staff has professional development. There are also other early dismissals and important dates as we close out the school year. The grade 8 promotion ceremony is June 11 and the last day of school for students in June 14. Be on the lookout for an invitation to our Q3 PAWS Awards Ceremonies next week! We are finalizing the winners, and those families will get an email invitation to attend their student's award ceremony from 8:30-9:00 am. Grade 6 is May 1, Grade 8 is May 2, and Grade 7 is May 3.

PS. NEXT SATURDAY (May 4) IS OUR ANNUAL PIZZA TRUCK EVENT FROM 12-3pm SPONSORED BY OUR PTA! There will be music, a Gaga Tournament, games, and pizza! All current and incoming families are invited! The school will be open and teachers and staff will be there! We will have tours of the school for our incoming families! Be on the lookout for the electronic flyer this week!

Only 2 school days left to determine which class wins for this month’s IXL Schoolwide Competition! Use the next few days to practice! The winners will get ice cream at the end of the week! The classes currently in the lead are below.

The Spring Scholastic Book Fair is Coming! (May 3-May 10)
The library learning commons will be hosting its Spring Book Fair from Friday, 5/3 to Friday, 5/10. Nature’s Classroom Forum - Tuesday April 30 @ 6pm
This October, grade 7 students went to Nature's Classroom for 3 days. This was a change from the 5 day trip in previous years. Before confirming the length of the trip in the fall, we will have a virtual meeting this Tuesday evening, April 30, at 6:00 pm for any parent that would like to discuss the trip being 3 or 5 days. 

Clothing Drive
If you are cleaning out closets this Spring Break, bag those unwanted items and save them for our upcoming clothing drive on Saturday, May 4th.

Chipotle Fundraiser – GRADE 8 GIVE BACK May 4 (4-8pm)
Class of 2024 Chipotle give back night. Saturday, May4th from 4-8pm at the Darien location.

Homeroom Competition

  • We have a friendly competition going on! The homeroom in each grade with the most money raised will win breakfast or lunch (their choice). 
  • Don’t forget to share your child’s homeroom info with friends and family when you share the link!
  • Updates on the homeroom competition will be shared on Panther News, Parent Square and in the West Rocks PTA Facebook group.
