WRMS Weekly Update 3/22/25

 

Hello West Rocks!

We had a busy week! Thursday’s early dismissal kicked off this year’s Drama Club's Production of Shrek Jr! The entire staff along with members of the community watched the first show Thursday afternoon. Check out the cast picture above!    There are two more shows today! One at 2:00pm and the last show is at 7:00pm tonight! You can purchase tickets at the door and online until 5:00pm for the evening show using the link below.  Shrek Jr. TICKETS Congratulations to our grade 7 students in the gifted and talented program for their exhibition of their National History Day projects this week in the cafeteria. We have our quarterly grade level awards this week! Be on the lookout for invitations via email to those families with student award winners. Remember, there are different students recognized each quarter! PANORAMA FAMILY SURVEY The WRMS Panorama Family Survey is open and will be available through March 28. This survey, given once per year each spring, helps us gather valuable insights into our school’s culture and climate. Your feedback is essential in shaping future decisions!   The survey takes just 5 minutes to complete. Our goal is for 30% of families to participate. Contact Dr. Maria Fox (foxm@norwalkps.org) NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY - WRMS CHAPTER Stay tuned for our NJHS application process. Historically, new members are rising 7th and 8th graders. The faculty council is scheduled to meet to discuss whether we will open applications up to current rising 9th graders (grade 8 students). FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE - NURSE MICHELLE Allergy season is coming soon and many students will start having trouble with their seasonal allergies. Please do not send your student into school with medication for them to take if they are not feeling well. All medication must have a doctors order for it to be taken in school on the State of CT medication authorization form.  We have a School Based clinic here at WRMS. If you have not already signed up for this service feel free to do so. Your child can be seen at the clinic for an evaluation and if they are in need of medication they can obtain it through them if deemed necessary. There are sign up form in the nurse's office and Main office we are happy to send home with your child. GRADE 6 FAMILIES If you have a current 6th grader and they have had a recent physical please send in the paperwork to the nurse.  All current 6th graders will need a physical and Immunizations before entering 7th grade.  Our School Based health center can assist you with this if you need an appointment to have this done. ATHLETICS Boys Basketball at BOE meeting The WRMS Boys Basketball team was recognized at the Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday this morning. Congrats on winning 3 consecutive Citywide Championships! Check out the picture above! Thank you to the coaches Mr. Voytek and Mr. Stokes for all of their hard work with the team. Travel Soccer and Volleyball Tryouts of Travel Soccer and Volleyball will begin on April 1st. Both are co-ed teams. Any students interested in trying out must submit a permission slip using the Google Form. https://forms.gle/MQgkCT2R6EMgJN159 Girls Field Hockey Coach Seaburg from Norwalk High will be hosting Girls Field Hockey Club on Monday afternoons from 3-4:15. The Club will be held on the West Rocks Turf. No prior Field Hockey experience is necessary. GRADE 6 MOVIE NIGHT - FRIDAY, MARCH 28

The 6th Grade Class will sponsor a Movie Night on Friday, March 28th at 6:00 pm. All West Rocks Students are invited to attend. Students should complete a permission slip and return with $10 to purchase a ticket.

• Permission slips will be sent home with 6th graders, and are available during lunch next week. You can also access a permission slip here. Refreshments will be served.

• Grade 6 families, will be contacted to donate food and drink items for sale, the sign up sheet can be accessed here.

GRADE 7

The seventh grade will be attending a science-based educational field trip this school year! 

• Our trip will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 to the Bronx Zoo in the Bronx, NY. 
  This field trip is connected to our Grade 7 Next Generation Science Standards. 

• Students will have the opportunity to visit over 4,000 animals over 265 acres including the Gorilla Exhibit!

Fundraiser
Grade 7 is raising funds for our end of year field trip to the Bronx Zoo. If you would to support our trip please consider purchasing delicious popcorn. Thank you in advance for your support.

The PTA Annual Spring Fundraiser is from April 1-April 12. Be on the lookout for more information.

Our next PTA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9.
