WRMS Weekly Update 3/15/25

Hello West Rocks!

Another great week in the books. Friday was Pi Day and our students took a quick quiz in math to be eligible for a raffle! There was a drawing at the end of the day for coupons for free “pizza pies” and cookies! Students learned that pi (3.14...) is an important mathematical constant used in many areas of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).    Our VPA Program (Visual and Performing Arts) visited the 5th graders at Tracey Elementary School on Friday! Students and staff talked about middle school, the transition, and students performed! It was a lot of fun…even our mascot Rocky made an appearance. Check out a few pics above.   Our Dual Language Program continued its campaign in support of Women’s History Month! Last week, students sold stickers in lunch waves that promoted women and Friday there was a flower sale! This is a fundraiser for the department that provides information on the importance of women in our society.   Students took the SEL (social emotional learning) portion of the Panorama Survey on Wednesday. They will take the school climate portion on March 25.

There will be a separate communication to families on Monday with the link and explanation of the Family portion of the Panorama Survey. Be on the lookout for that. The Panorama provides valuable feedback on school climate, communication, and family engagement. We want as many families to complete the survey as possible!

NJHS COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Attention Panther Community! The West Rocks NJHS is collecting travel-size toiletries to support St. Vincent De Paul’s Homeless Shelter—bring items like shampoo, soap, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and baby wipes to the collection box in Ms. Powell’s room (191) and make a difference in our community! Collection will be on going until April 24th! 

NATIONAL HISTORY DAY PROJECT EXHIBITION

WRMS National History Day Projects on Display - On Tuesday, March 18th from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, all 7th grade GT students, along with a few 8th grade GT students, will be sharing their National History Day projects with parents in the cafeteria. Please excuse these students from your classes so they’ll be able to attend. All 8th graders who are participating in this event, will receive a pass from us, so that they can be marked excused absence.

GRADE 8

Final trip payments were due Friday, 3/14. Please be sure to take care of any remaining balance this week. Students will meet this upcoming week to select roommates and groups. Please save the date for a mandatory family meeting for all those attending the trip on Wednesday, April 2nd at 6:30pm. All students must attend with an adult in order to attend the trip. We do have availability to take a few more students. Please reach out to Dr. Golding if you are interested in your child attending or have any questions.
