WRMS Weekly Update 2/8/25

Hello West Rocks!  Another great week…as we had our first snow day of the 2024-2025 school year! Look out, more inclement weather is coming next week. Please continue to check the Norwalk Public Schools website for updated information on school cancellations, delays, and other weather-related announcements. Thank you to our PTA for hosting our annual Winter Dance last night!! It was a great time! Shout-out to our National Junior Honor Society students for helping to make some of the decorations! Check out the pictures above.

Students took the reading portion NWEA (map) test this week. Students that were absent or did not finish completed the test on Friday. Students will take the math portion of the test on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. These scores show growth, are used to guide instruction, and are also used for class placement for next school year. High schools use the scores of our grade 8 students to place them in high school courses. Please be sure your student gets a good night’s sleep, eats breakfast, and comes to school with a charged Chromebook. This Wednesday, February 12 is our PTA and Family SEL Night! We will meet in our cafeteria at 6:30 pm…dinner will be served! The PTA meeting will be 6:30-7:00 then our SEL team will share our progress on RULER and share the next steps. There will be an interactive portion as we all learn about the social emotional tools in our toolbox.

Congratulations to the members of our band that performed this week at the Eastside Band Concert!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

February is Black History Month! We will celebrate the theme: Creative Forces: Celebrating the Arts. 
We will have a 2-day lesson in an extended homeroom before break, then celebrate with a whole-school assembly and participate in the district-wide celebration in the last week of February.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) UPDATE - RULER

This Wednesday night (Feb 12) after the PTA meeting @ 6:30 pm, participate in our second SEL Family Night of the school year. Dinner will be served. Our SEL Team will share our progress with the Mood Meter, then have an interactive portion to show our tools for the rest of the year! All are welcome!

KINDNESS WEEK BY STUDENT COUNCIL

WRMS Student Council is sponsoring Kindness week. Students can send a note of kindness to a friend or staff member this week at lunch. Notes will be delivered on Friday, Feb. 14th. Student Council members can earn service hours on Thursday, Feb. 13th from 3-4pm to prepare notes for delivery.
