All Quarter 2 and Semester 1 grades are now final. You can access the Q2/S1 Report Card in PowerSchool through the Parent Portal by clicking on the “Student Reports” link on the left side.
Students will take the NWEA (map) test this week which is the second time this year. They will take the Reading portion on Tuesday and Wednesday in homeroom. Next week, they will take the Math portion. These scores show growth, are used to guide instruction, and are also used for class placement for next school year. High schools use the scores of our grade 8 students to place them in high school courses. Please be sure your student gets a good night’s sleep, eats breakfast, and comes to school with a charged Chromebook.
On Friday, Mrs. Amaral and I went on Panther News to review our district’s policy the NPS Guidelines Regarding Non-Local Law Enforcement and ICE Actions. Our school-based safety team has also operationalized the policy and protocol. You can find that policy below:
We have a busy two weeks – Black History Month kick off! Ski & Snowboard Club! Maritime Field Trips! And our Winter Dance on Friday night!! Check out the other information below.

SCHOOL QUALITY REVIEW
Norwalk Public Schools is in the fourth year of a process called a School Quality Review (SQR). The School Quality Review process is conducted by the NPS District Education Administrator of School Quality Review. This person is the reviewer and the author of the report with ratings.
Based on the NPS Quality Review Rubric, schools receive a rating for each of the 10 indicators. There is one Area of Celebration, one Area for Improvement, and one Area of Progress. These drive our school improvement and action plans moving forward.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February is Black History Month! We will celebrate the theme: Creative Forces: Celebrating the Arts.
We will have a 2 day lesson in an extended homeroom before break, then celebrate with a whole-school assembly and participate in the district-wide celebration in the last week of February.
SCIENCE IXL SCHOOLWIDE COMPETITION!
Our January Science IXL Competition is over! Friday, January was the last day. Be on the lookout for the final standings in a separate communication later today! The winning classes will get a prize this week.
FOR THE LOVE OF READING - SCHOOLWIDE READING CHALLENGE
We are excited to announce our Whole School Reading Challenge that will begin on Monday, February 3rd. The "For the LOVE of READING" challenge is designed to celebrate the joy and excitement of reading.
Throughout February, students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of topics through engaging books and articles. Our goal is to inspire students to read not only for themselves but also to share the experience with family members, fostering a love for reading together. Students will read 1 article a week and will earn a quiz grade for completion in their ELA class.
In addition, there will be weekly prizes for students and a whole school READING BINGO card to use throughout the month. For more information, please view this PRESENTATION.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) UPDATE - RULER
Our Ruler Trivia challenge #1 was a success! We had over 100 participants. As we finish up introducing our 100 emotional vocabulary words, we will review them in fun ways.
Stay tuned for the next challenge and SAVE THE DATE for our Family SEL Night on Wednesday, Feb. 12th. Congratulations to our winners!
