Hello West Rocks!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Because it was later in the month, we only have two weeks left before our winter break.
Before leaving, we celebrated our winners of the Sport-a-Thon and students that raised $100 or more taped me to the wall! Check out the picture above! There was also pizza given out this week and credits to our school store – Panther Provisions.
We kicked off our schoolwide IXL Math Challenge yesterday! Each math class will compete against one another to see how many tasks they can complete at 75% accuracy or better! The competition will go through December 20 at 2:50pm. The winners will earn a party for their math class.
Each family should have heard from their student’s ELA teacher about an independent reading requirement of at least 20 minutes per day. Depending on the grade level and unit, some classes will read one novel both in and outside of class, while others will have their own independent reading book. It will also appear in PowerSchool. Please reach out to your student’s ELA teacher with any questions.
The weather is changing! Please be sure your child is prepared to go outside each day. They should have a jacket as well as a hat and gloves if necessary. We will go outside each day for recess. Students will be required to keep all of these belongings in their assigned lockers.
Be sure to check the Norwalk Public Schools website and communication for weather related changes to the schedule or calendar. 2-hour delayed openings and cancelations are posted as early as possible.

WINTER AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING
Winter Clubs will begin meeting this week! All clubs meet from 3-4pm after school. A parent or guardian must complete the permission slip using the link to the Google Form if their student is interested in participating in any clubs. Please note, Dance Club has a 20-student maximum on a first-come, first serve basis. Direct questions to Ms. Holly Cammarota (cammarotah@norwalkps.org).

Congratulations to our band for two great performances this week! Our grade 7 and 8 bands played their Holiday Concert on Wednesday and performed at the SoNo Collection on Thursday! Congratulations to our band director Mrs. Jean and all of our students!

NJHS PEER TUTORING
We’re excited to announce that NJHS peer tutoring for the WRMS PAWS afterschool program will begin on Tuesday, December 11, 2024, from 3:00–4:00 PM. Thank you to the NJHS members who have already signed up to support their peers in their academic success! More volunteers are always welcome to join this rewarding experience. If you’re interested in earning community service hours while making a difference, contact Ms. Powell in room 191 or sign-up using the provided link.

HOLIDAY MOVIE NIGHT
Join us Friday, Dec. 13th for Holiday Movie Night, sponsored by the Grade 8 Class of 2025. All WRMS students are welcome. Students must turn in a permission slip and purchase a ticket for $10 this week during lunch. Snacks will be available for purchase. Grade 8 families should refer to a separate communication from Dr. Golding for donation sign-up and volunteers.
HOLIDAY DONATION DRIVE
Three more days to bring in donations to support families in our WRMS Community. Student Council members will stay afterschool on Thursday, Dec. 12th to sort and create bags for families. Any students who wish to earn service hours are welcome to attend.
Yearbook Baby Pictures
It's Baby Photo Time for 8th Grade Students! The yearbook staff is hard at work on the 2025 yearbook. We are ready for you to submit your Baby Photo to be included in the yearbook. Baby photos must be submitted using this form.
PLEASE name your image file using LASTNAMEFIRSTNAME before you upload your image. This will make it much easier for us to get your name right with the baby photo.
Please understand that we cannot accept pictures after the deadline due to printing deadlines.

PANTHER PROVISIONS - OUR SCHOOL STORE!
Our school store, Panther Provisions, will open at the end of this week during all lunch shifts. Students should make sure to have PAWS Charter Champion cards ready to go for Thursday. They will be able to use cards to purchase school swag and enter raffles! Students who raised $25 or more at the Sport-a-thon will also receive store credit!
