This week was FRIGID! Due to the cold weather we were inside for three days. We were able to get outside on Friday for recess and we hope to continue to be outside next week. Please be sure your student dresses for the weather – jacket and hat.
Our Superintendent Dr. Estrella visited West Rocks this week to recognize three staff members for their years of service! Our head custodian Mr. Keeling, secretary Mrs. Morrell, and custodian Mr. Pecunia were surprised with certificates! Check out the image above and use the link to watch a video of the celebration!
Just a reminder that Monday, January 27 is a 2-hour early dismissal for students (12:50pm). Staff will have professional development. Please continue to check the district calendar for days with early dismissals, holidays, and vacations. We have a full week off in February.
We officially started the second half of the year! Mrs. Amaral posted an update on Parent Square earlier this week. Teachers are entering grades for Q2 and final report cards will be available in PowerSchool on Friday, January 31. Any questions about grades or assignments should be directed to your student’s teacher.
On Thursday, we flipped the order of the students’ core classes. Students’ core 4 class is now in the morning and vice versa. The teacher remained the same, just the order of classes during the day changed. Ask your student how the change is going!

SCIENCE IXL SCHOOLWIDE COMPETITION!
Congratulations to our science classes that were in the lead last week halfway through our Science IXL schoolwide competition! They received prizes yesterday.
The competition continues through next Friday, January 31. Each class per grade level will compete against one another. The science teachers have assigned students daily work in IXL and enter it as a weekly grade in PowerSchool.
Be on the lookout for the leaderboard in a separate communication later this weekend! Keep up the great work!
BINGO NIGHT - FRIDAY, JAN. 31ST
We are happy to announce that we will have our Winter BINGO night for all students and families on Friday January 31st from 6:30pm until 8:30pm. Play 8 games for $10 with a chance to win prizes! Concessions including pizza will be sold.
Tickets will be sold during lunch starting Wednesday January 29th. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Any student that purchases tickets before the event will have their name put into a raffle for a special prize!

GRADE 8
Students participating in the fudge and popcorn fundraiser should turn tally sheets and payments into their home room teacher. Orders are due no later than Tuesday to ensure delivery by Valentine's Day!
The homeroom with the most participants earns a pizza party. The top seller will be eligible to attend the year end trip to Quassy for FREE! If your child is not attending the trip, please consider buying items to support the Class of 2025! Please stay current with payments if your child is attending the trip.

WINTER CONCERT - 6TH GRADE BAND AND JAZZ
Please join us for our Band and Jazz Ensemble’s Winter Concert this Wednesday, January 29 @ 7pm. Our band director Mrs. Jean and our students have been working very hard to prepare an incredible show.
TRAVEL BASKETBALL
The teams are on a roll! Students and families are invited to attend our home games this Tuesday, January 28 after school. The girls play first, then the boys. Good luck to both teams!
