WRMS Weekly Update 11/24/24

Hello West Rocks! I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is upon us. We had a great week with an extended homeroom on Wednesday so teachers and staff were able to meet with the remainder of their assigned “Take 10” students. While we did that, the students in the class filled out Gratitude Cards for at least 2 staff members!  Our PTA sponsored this activity and after the students filled out the cards, they were delivered to staff members around the school! It was amazing to see how everyone felt appreciated! THANK YOU, PTA! Check out a picture of the postcard above. When we return from Thanksgiving break, we have our book fair, a field trip, and concerts. Please be on the lookout for future communication and continue to check our website for the calendar of events. This is a reminder that we have a 2-hour early dismissal this Wednesday, November 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday, and there is no school on Thursday and Friday. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the importance of gratitude, togetherness, and building connections with loved ones. As we celebrate this season, let’s also inspire our children to express appreciation for the people and opportunities that enrich their lives every day. WINTER AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Winter After-School Clubs and Activities will begin meeting the week of December 9th. 

All clubs meet from 3-4pm after school. A parent or guardian must complete the permission slip using the link to the Google Form if their student is interested in participating in any clubs. Please note, Dance Club has a 20-student maximum on a first come, first serve basis. Direct questions to Ms. Holly Cammarota (cammarotah@norwalkps.org).

Winter After-School Sign-up

The Ski and Snowboarding Club will be separate. We anticipate 4 Tuesday trips to Mt. Southington in January and February. More information to come!

TRAVEL BASKETBALL

Tryouts for Girls and Boys Basketball will begin on December 3rd.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

It’s Book Fair Time!

The WRMS Library will run its Fall Book Fair from Monday, 12/2 to Friday, 12/6. All students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during their ELA classes that week. 

The easiest way for your students to purchase is to create an eWallet account for your child, please sign up through the Fair's homepage HERE.

WINTER DONATION DRIVE

Our Holiday Donation Drive begins this week. Our goal is to support families with non-perishable food and winter wear before leaving for the December break. Donations will be collected in homeroom. The homeroom that collects the most items will be treated to a special breakfast.

GRADE 8 KRISPY KREME FUNDRAISER

Be on the lookout for order forms coming home on Monday! Orders will be taken until Dec. 9th and delivered on Friday, Dec. 13th. $20 per box (one dozen). Students earn $10 towards their trip balance for each box sold. This is a great way to reduce the cost of the trip. Please take advantage of this opportunity.

OBLIGATIONS

There will be communication this week if there is a fee assigned to your child. 

Fees are entered in PowerSchool and can be viewed by families. Fees are usually for repairs to devices or lost Chromebooks, library books, or outstanding balances on field trips. Prior trip balances may impact a student's ability to participate in future trips. Fees can be paid via cash, check to WRMS, or money order.
