WRMS Weekly Update 11/10/24

WRMS Weekly Update 11/10/24
WRMS Staff

November 10, 2024 (Please download the Parent Square app to select your preferred language.)

This is weekend’s Post has a lot of important information, so please read all the way through!

Congratulations to our grade 7 students for an amazing experience at Nature’s Classroom this week! Our students spent Wednesday through Friday in Barrington, Massachusetts applying their learning in nature. Students were in small groups and took hikes, built fires, participated in classes about fishing, pH levels, and more! We are all excited about the extra day of rest on Monday to catch up on some sleep! Check out a few pictures from the trip above! (And they are posted on our social media!) Students that did not attend were able to have an experience at Cranbury Park on Friday. You can see those pictures on Parent Square. Thank you to Miss Sabol for all her hard work!

We have high expectations for students! We believe they succeed when they are engaged academically and emotionally. All Q1 grades and comments are posted in the PowerSchool Portal. Hardcopies of the report card will not be mailed home. Please access it through your account. If you need access to PowerSchool, please reach out to our main office secretary Mrs. Coto (coton@norwalkps.org).

We had our first Sport-a-Thon raffle on Friday! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and so much fun for all our students! Please see more information below.

Thank you to our veterans of the United States Armed Services. We have no school on Monday to observe this holiday.

Have a great rest of the long weekend,
Adam Reynolds
Principal, West Rocks Middle School

PS. OBLIGATIONS - Please be on the lookout this week for communication if there is a fee assigned to your child. Fees are entered in PowerSchool and can be viewed by families. Fees are usually for repairs to devices or lost Chromebooks, library books, or outstanding balances on field trips. Prior trip balances may impact a student's ability to participate in future trips. Fees can be paid via cash, check to WRMS, or money order.

VETERAN'S DAY 2024

SPORT-A-THON 2024

Wow! What a week! Thank you to all that continue to fundraise and support our biggest school fundraiser! We are still working towards hitting our $15,000 goal. We know that many families supported Cranbury and Silvermine in their successful dance-a-thon and walk-a-thon.

We appreciate your willingness to support our event as well. Thursday we raised almost $2,000. We saw our online participation increase from 62 to 111! Last year, we had 20% of students participate in fundraising prior to the day of the event. This year, we are currently at 18.9% - WE CAN BEAT THAT!

  • Currently Grade 8 is in the lead!
  • Mr. Richards’s homeroom is the closest to winning the 100% participation Garden Catering lunch.

Congratulations to our raffle winners.

  • On Friday, we had a great day as we played SPIN TO WIN and tested out our new popcorn machine. This coming week, we will have raffles on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thursday is the last day for cash donations to be counted towards the grade-level competition. Friday morning, we will accept donations in the cafeteria during homeroom. That is the last chance to earn extra time that day at our Sport-a-thon event. We will be treated to a visit from The Grit Ninja.

    Please complete the waiver

  • Students must have the waiver completed to use the Grit Ninja equipment. There are other activities to enjoy in addition to this equipment. We will have prizes for our top 3 earners and lots more fun things planned this coming week.

  • Please register online with this link if you have not done so already.

    • Students who register online will receive extra incentives! Please feel free to reach out to Dr. Golding with any questions.

INTRAMURAL SPORTS

Football
Clear your schedules, set your calendars, and tell your friends. Your Panthers ended their season with a 7-1 record and will head to their third consecutive championship game. This year they hope the third time is the charm as they look to take home the trophy to its rightful home at West Rocks.

Hockey
The WRMS Girls Field Hockey Team ended their season with a final record of 6-1-1, securing the team a spot in the championship game against Roton. The Championship Game will be on Wednesday, November 13th at 3:45pm at West Rocks.

FALL CLEAN-UP - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH (9 AM - 12 PM)

Come out and earn 3 service hours on Saturday morning! All parents and students are invited to help rake leaves, pick up trash, and clean the grounds.  We will meet in front of the school and provide fruit and snacks!

GRADE 8

We have a lot coming up with high school choice selection! We had a great visit on Friday from NHS and P-Tech. Please be on the lookout for separate communication from Dr. Golding about Grade 8 events, trips, and fundraisers. Since there is typically so much information for Grade 8, a specific grade level communication is sent. Please reach out to Dr. Golding or Ms. DiCerbo with any questions about the upcoming high school visits and open houses.

VPA - VISUAL PERFORMING ARTS

Field Trip on December 18

We are excited to announce that our VPA students in Grades 7 and 8 have the opportunity to attend a field trip to see "Hairspray the Musical" at the White Plains Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, December 18th, at 11:00 AM. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience live theater and engage with the themes of the show.

Students will leave at 9:00 AM. We will return at approximately 3:00 PM. Please note that students will need to arrange their own transportation home, as we will arrive after the buses have dismissed.

Lunch: Students will need to bring a bag lunch for the day. The cost per student is $80, which includes the ticket and transportation by bus. Space is limited, so please confirm your child's participation as soon as possible by completing this permission slip. Questions can be directed to Dr. Golding (goldings@norwalkps.org).

CARDIAC SCREENINGS

In a Heartbeat will provide free cardiac screenings for middle and high school students on Thursday, 11/14 at BMHS from 12:30pm-5:00pm. Their mission is to identify individuals at risk for sudden cardiac arrest.
