Weekly Update 9/27/25

Weekly Update 9/27/25
WRMS Staff

Hello West Rocks!

I can’t believe we are already closing out September! Thank you for another great week at West Rocks.

NWEA MAP Assessments
Students completed their NWEA MAP assessments in both literacy and math this week. If your child was absent or did not finish a portion, make-up testing began on Friday and will continue at the start of next week. To encourage students to come prepared with a fully charged Chromebook, we held a raffle on Friday. Check out the picture of two of our winners above!

Family Night at the Maritime Aquarium
We had a wonderful turnout on Thursday night at the Maritime Aquarium for Family Night. As our partnership continues to grow, we are excited to see students and families engaging in learning opportunities both during and outside of school.

October Awareness & Celebrations
In addition to Hispanic Heritage Month, we will also focus on Breast Cancer Awareness throughout October. This is an important opportunity for our school to come together in recognition, education, and support for those impacted by breast cancer. Please see more details below on ways we will highlight this throughout the month. Friday, October 3rd is our first PINK OUT Friday!

PSATs for Grade 8
On Tuesday, October 7, all grade 8 students will take the PSAT in their homerooms during the morning. This is their first experience with College Board’s assessment. The test is computer-based, and we encourage students to give their best effort. Practicing with focus and persistence now will help them improve as they continue into high school.

No School Thursday
Please remember that there is no school this Thursday, October 2, in observance of Yom Kippur.

  • A reminder to check the district calendar regularly for important dates. There are several upcoming holidays, modified dismissal schedules, and events to be aware of in the next few months.

Thank you for your continued support as we close out September and look ahead to a busy and exciting October at West Rocks!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Adam Reynolds

Principal, West Rocks Middle School

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

West Rocks’ Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign

We are excited to announce the launch of our annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, dedicated to raising awareness, promoting early detection, and supporting those affected by breast cancer within our middle school community. This year's campaign will officially kick off on October 1st and will run throughout the entire month of October.

How to Get Involved:

There are many ways your family can participate and make a difference:

  • Wear Pink on Fridays: Join us every Friday in October by wearing pink to show your support. We will begin this Friday, October 3rd.

  • Purchase Pink Merchandise: Pink t-shirts and bracelets will be sold during lunch periods. All proceeds will go towards supporting breast cancer awareness initiatives.

  • Participate in the Making Strides Walk: Our school will be participating in the Making Strides walk on October 19 at Sherwood Island. We encourage families and students to join our team or donate to cancer research by visiting: WRMS Pink Panthers

We encourage everyone in our middle school community to participate in this vital campaign. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer.

FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE

7th Grade Physicals

7th Grade parents if you have not submitted your child's physicals to the school nurse yet please do. The physicals were done prior to the first day of school. It is important to get those in to prevent a disruption in your student's ability to come to school.

Medications

Parents if your child will need to have medications at school (inhalers/epipens) please get these ASAP. Please have your doctor write the order for the medications on the authorization form, parents will need to sign these forms as well. Medications must be in the original prescription bottle from the pharmacy or in a box. Any medications that are Opened or loose will not be accepted. Please check the expiration date on these prior to sending them in. In order for medication to be accepted everything must be fully complete. Our nurse will not accept meds without orders that are signed by both parent and doctor. Field trips will be starting soon and your child will need any and all meds in order to participate on the trip.

NPS Sick Policy

If your child is ill please use caution when sending them into school. Your child cannot come to school with fever or vomiting. If you are unsure if your child can come to school feel free to call the nurse to discuss. Your child must remain fever free for 24 hours in order to return to school. If your child is vomiting they cannot come to school. They must be 24 hours free from vomiting in order to come to school. If your child has vomited in the middle of the night or upon waking in the morning they cannot come to school that day. Please call the school to report their illness. The Nurse is happy to help guide you, feel free to call her to discuss.

PLEASE CONSIDER COMPLETING THE APPLICATION TO DETERMINE WHETHER YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE AND REDUCED COST MEALS.
