Weekly Update 9/20/25

Weekly Update 9/20/25
WRMS Staff

Hello West Rocks!

Thank you for another great week at West Rocks and for making our Panther Block Party on Wednesday night such a fun event! It was wonderful to see so many families and students enjoying games, food, music, and time together as a community. Check out a few pictures above from the night!

Hispanic Heritage Month
We officially kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with staff on Monday afternoon and will continue to celebrate and recognize important figures in history throughout September and into October. Students will see highlights in morning announcements, classroom projects, and special events.

Fall NWEA MAP Testing
Last week, students completed the math portion of the MAP test in their homerooms. This week, students will take the ELA portion on Wednesday and Thursday.

There is no school on Tuesday, September 23, in recognition of Rosh Hashanah.

A reminder to check the district calendar regularly for important dates. There are several upcoming holidays, modified dismissal schedules, and events to be aware of in the next few months.

Teaching and Learning
Students are now fully into their content across classrooms. At West Rocks, we believe students learn best when they are both academically and emotionally engaged in their work. Be on the lookout for a communication from our ELA Department introducing our new StudySync resource. This platform supports students in reading and engaging with texts both in and out of class. You will continue to get weekly messages from our SEL Team reporting on our progress as a school using the RULER Approach.

School Governance Council
Thank you to those who already expressed interest in joining our School Governance Council. If you are also interested, please let me know by Monday, September 22. The number of interested candidates will determine if we need to hold an election.

We have another busy week of events planned! Be sure to check out the information below about an exciting maritime opportunity and our upcoming Movie Night!

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Have a nice weekend,
Adam Reynolds
Principal, West Rocks Middle School

FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE

7th Grade Physicals

7th Grade parents if you have not submitted your child's physicals to the school nurse yet please do. The physicals were done prior to the first day of school. It is important to get those in to prevent a disruption in your student's ability to come to school.

Medications

Parents if your child will need to have medications at school (inhalers/epipens) please get these ASAP. Please have your doctor write the order for the medications on the authorization form, parents will need to sign these forms as well. Medications must be in the original prescription bottle from the pharmacy or in a box. Any medications that are Opened or loose will not be accepted. Please check the expiration date on these prior to sending them in. In order for medication to be accepted everything must be fully complete. Our nurse will not accept meds without orders that are signed by both parent and doctor. Field trips will be starting soon and your child will need any and all meds in order to participate on the trip.

NPS Sick Policy

If your child is ill please use caution when sending them into school. Your child cannot come to school with fever or vomiting. If you are unsure if your child can come to school feel free to call the nurse to discuss. Your child must remain fever free for 24 hours in order to return to school. If your child is vomiting they cannot come to school. They must be 24 hours free from vomiting in order to come to school. If your child has vomited in the middle of the night or upon waking in the morning they cannot come to school that day. Please call the school to report their illness. The Nurse is happy to help guide you, feel free to call.

MOVIE NIGHT

All students are invited to a special Movie Night on Friday, September 26th, at 6:00 PM in the auditorium. We will be showing Minecraft: The Movie! Come enjoy a fun-filled evening with your friends. Delicious concessions will be available for purchase. Students must have a signed permission slip in order to purchase a ticket.

Tickets will be on sale during all lunch periods starting Wednesday, September 24th. The cost is $10. We hope to see you there!

FOOD SERVICE

PLEASE CONSIDER COMPLETING THE APPLICATION TO DETERMINE WHETHER YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE AND REDUCED COST MEALS.

The Norwalk Public Schools Food Services website provides families with important information about school meals and nutrition programs. It serves as a central hub for resources, forms, and updates related to student food services across the district.

This year, families will need to complete an application to be eligible for free and reduced cost meals. The State has provided time for this to occur, so students will be able to get meals at no charge through September.
  • For assistance, please feel free to reach out to the main office at West Rocks (203) 899-2970.

We are excited to once again offer the "Filling in the Blanks" (FITB) program, which provides a free weekend supply of nutritious food for students. Each bag is packed with two breakfasts, two lunches, snacks, a can of vegetables, a container of milk, and a fresh piece of fruit.

This program is available to all students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. If you'd like your child to participate, please complete the online registration form below.

Multiple Children: If you have more than one child at West Rocks, please be sure to add all of your students to the same registration form. This helps ensure that each child receives a food bag.
