Weekly Update 9/13/25

Weekly Update 9/13/25
WRMS Staff

Hello West Rocks Students and Families!

Thank you for a great week at West Rocks and for such a strong turnout at our Back to School Night on Wednesday! It was wonderful to see so many families connecting with our teachers and learning about the year ahead.

If you were unable to attend, our introductory broadcasts are available to stream on YouTube (approx 20 min):

PTA Block Party This Wednesday!
We are excited to host our annual PTA Block Party this Wednesday, September 17, from 5:30-7:30 PM in the front of the school. This event is open to the entire community and is always a lot of fun! Join us for games, music, food trucks, and a Gaga tournament with a prize for this year’s champion. Check out the PTA information below for more details. We hope to see you there!

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
On Monday, September 15, we begin our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month! Throughout the month, we will highlight Hispanic heritage and culture through morning announcements, student projects, and special events. We are especially excited for our second annual Staff vs. Students Soccer Game on Thursday, October 9. In addition, West Rocks will participate in the district-wide celebration on Wednesday, October 30, at Brien McMahon High School.

Fall NWEA Assessments
This week, students will take the math portion of the NWEA assessment in their homerooms on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The NWEA is:

  • A universal screener used to measure student growth from year to year.

  • A starting point for this school year and a tool to guide teacher instruction.

  • One of the data points used to identify students for intervention or possible gifted and talented programs.

To support a smooth testing experience, please help your child by ensuring their Chromebook is fully charged overnight. Students who arrive with a fully charged Chromebook will be entered into a raffle for some great prizes!

If your child is having issues with charging their Chromebook, please contact Dr. Golding so we can provide support (goldings@norwalkps.org).

Thank you for your continued partnership! We’re looking forward to a week filled with learning, celebration, and community fun!

Have a wonderful weekend,
Adam Reynolds
Principal, West Rocks Middle School

P.S. As a reference, don’t forget to check the district calendar for important dates throughout the school year.

MARINE SCIENCE

We're excited to share that the Aquarium will be hosting its second annual fall Marine Science Pathway Family Night on Thursday, September 25th from 5:30-8:00pm. This free event is open to all Marine Science Pathway students, teachers, staff, and their families. This includes all of Jefferson Marine Science Elementary School, West Rocks Middle School, and Brien McMahon High School. Check out the flyer below in both English and Spanish.

FOOD SERVICE

PLEASE CONSIDER COMPLETING THE APPLICATION TO DETERMINE WHETHER YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE AND REDUCED COST MEALS. FAMILIES WILL BE CHARGED STARTING IN OCTOBER.

The Norwalk Public Schools Food Services website provides families with important information about school meals and nutrition programs. It serves as a central hub for resources, forms, and updates related to student food services across the district.

  • This year, families will need to complete an application to be eligible for free and reduced cost meals. The State has provided time for this to occur, so students will be able to get meals at no charge through September.

  • For assistance, please feel free to reach out to the main office at West Rocks (203) 899-2970.
