Hello West Rocks!

Thank you to everyone for your support, flexibility, and understanding with the heat and the two-hour early dismissals this past week. We know schedule changes can be difficult for families, and we appreciate your patience as we worked to keep students and staff safe and comfortable. Hopefully, the weather will be a little more cooperative this week.

We also had our annual Grade 8 Pre-Promotion Party on Friday night, and it was a great evening filled with games, food, music, and fun. Thank you to everyone who helped make the night special for our students. More photos of our Grade 8 celebrations will be shared this week on social media!

We are also proud to recognize our 8th grade students who have participated in several of our signature programs and leadership opportunities at West Rocks.

Our Dual Language students are completing a meaningful middle school experience that prepares them to continue toward earning the Connecticut Seal of Biliteracy in high school.
Our Visual and Performing Arts students have represented West Rocks through band, orchestra, chorus, drama, and visual arts, sharing their talents at school events, district performances, and beyond.
Our Marine Science Pathway students are the first group to complete all three years of this unique program, which connected science learning to hands-on experiences in and out of the classroom.
We are also proud of our My Brother’s Keeper and My Sister’s Keeper students, who will wear cords at Promotion in recognition of their commitment, leadership, and participation, and we congratulate our National Junior Honor Society members for representing scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

We also want to congratulate Scarlett Tiani on her incredible invention! Head over to our Facebook page to read more about Scarlett’s Invention and help us celebrate her creativity, problem-solving, and hard work!

Out of 305,000 students who participated in Invention Convention this year, only 513 earned a spot at US Nationals, 4 being from Norwalk, CT.

Scarlett was named the winner for the National Animal Care & Pets Award Category for all grades K–12! Then she was 1 of 5 inventors to receive an award from the firm WilmerHale for a patent application.

Next week, we will also hold our Smarter Balanced Celebration. Students who met their individual growth goals will be recognized, and they will receive additional time to celebrate their hard work and progress. We are proud of the effort so many students put into showing growth this year.

Finally, please remember that we have a shorter week ahead. There will be no school on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

YEAR-END DEVICE COLLECTION

Mandatory End-of-Year Device Collection

As the school year comes to a close, all students must turn in their school-issued device. Over the summer, our IT department will be collecting these devices to perform necessary software updates and repair any damages so they are ready to go for the fall.

To ensure a smooth return process, please ensure your student completes the following steps before handing in their equipment:

Clean the device: Please wipe down the screen and keyboard.
Remove all stickers: All personal stickers must be completely peeled off and removed.
Return the charger: Devices must be turned in with their accompanying power cord.

Important Note Regarding Fees:

Missing Chargers: There is a $15 replacement fee for unreturned chargers.
Device Damages: Families may be charged for the cost of repairs if a device is returned damaged.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our technology in great shape!

GRADE 8 UPDATES

Promotion is here! Students will be receiving tickets at 2:45pm Monday. Students leaving early will not receive their tickets. Tickets can be picked up between 3-4pm.

A HUGE thank you to all the families who donated and volunteered at our Pre-Promotion Party. It was a fantastic night, and we could not have done it without all our fabulous Class of 2026 families.

VISUAL PERFORMING ARTS

Congratulations to the 140 8th Graders involved in our Visual and Performing Arts program. We celebrated the group Friday. Take a look at the memories and successful performances and projects over the last three years. The Class of 2026 really left their mark!
