Hello West Rocks!
We made it to June! Each day has been filled with various activities and events for all of our students!
Congratulations to our West Rocks Music Department that competed at the “Trills and Thrills” Music Festival at Six Flags on Friday! The band, chorus, and orchestra all competed separately and earned a high score. They finished the day with some fun at the amusement park. Check out a few of the pictures above.
Grade 7 visited the Bronx Zoo on Wednesday and had a great time! They saw a special gorilla exhibit and walked around with their group and teacher for the whole day. Check out a few of the pictures!
Grade 6 had an assembly and a virtual parent meeting about next year’s overnight trip to Outdoor Classroom (formerly Nature’s Classroom). The trip is Nov 5 - 7, 2025. Information was sent home to those families. Please direct any questions to our grade 7 team leader Miss Sabol (sabolr@norwalkps.org).
As we head into the last few weeks of school, we’re reminding students to keep showing up, trying their best, and finishing the year strong. This is the time to stay focused, wrap up any loose ends, and feel proud of how far they’ve come.
Every day still matters whether it’s in the classroom, with friends, or just making good choices. Let’s keep working together to help our kids end the year on a high note!

PS. Please continue to use our school and district calendar to plan for the end of the year. Grade 8 Promotion is Monday, June 9 @ 7pm at the Concert Hall in Norwalk's City Hall. June 12-13 are the last two days of school and are 2-hour early dismissals (12:50pm).
WEST ROCKS SOCCER
Congratulations to our co-ed travel soccer team on their championship win over Ponus this week with a score of 4-2. Check out some highlights of the game here. Be sure to check our social media pages for all the highlights.
MARINE SCIENCE
Marine Science Trout Release
Grade 6 Marine Science students at West Rocks Middle School had an unforgettable hands-on learning experience! For the second consecutive year, in partnership with Trout Unlimited, Ms. Lewis' classes released over 40 juvenile trout into the Silvermine River as part of an ongoing class project that began with the class receiving brown trout eggs in January. While at the river, students observed native fish, insects, crayfish, and other aquatic life, gaining a deeper understanding of the ecosystem that supports the trout they helped raise. This real-world experience brought months of classroom learning to life in a powerful way.
RUNNING CLUB
Congratulations to the members of the WRMS Running Club for completing “The Final Mile” at at Wickham Park in Manchester this week. The event was sponsored by the Hartford Marathon Foundation. A special thanks to our advisor, Ms. Mouland, Mr. Voytek, and Ms. Cammarota for their efforts to provide students with this great opportunity.
CHROMEBOOK COLLECTION
As we wrap up the school year, all students are required to return their Chromebook and charger on the scheduled collection day. Please note that lost chargers will incur a $15 replacement fee. Devices will be checked by IT for any damages. Fees for damages and/or repairs will be entered into PowerSchool.

Please ensure devices are clean and free of stickers and any markings. There will be an opportunity for students to pick up a device during the summer if one is needed to complete summer learning. GRADE 8
Grade 8 Families should be on the lookout for a Parent Square post on Monday outlining specific information about Promotion. Please note that students do not wear caps and gowns. See the image below for questions regarding appropriate dress for the ceremony.
Promotion RAFFLE! - LAST CALL!
Each family gets 3 tickets to the Promotion ceremony. If you would like the chance to win more, we are holding a raffle. There will be 5 winners selected. Each winner receives an additional 2 tickets to the ceremony. Tickets can be purchased from Dr. Golding for $5 each. Students can purchase during the day or families can stop in to buy. The drawing will be Wednesday, June 4th on YouTube.Permission Slip - Pre-Promotion Party and Promotion Practice!
Please complete this form for both events. There is no cost for either, but your child cannot attend without the form being completed.
Pre-Promotion Party
We are in need of donations, especially DINNER and volunteers for the party on Friday, June 6th. We need food for 250 people. You can access the sign-up sheet here. We need every family to help out. Donations cannot be brought in until the day of the event. If you wish to make a cash donation, please Venmo Kate Africano.
GRADE 6
Grade 6 Mystic Aquarium Trip – Tuesday, June 3rd
Grade 6 students who signed up for the Mystic Aquarium trip will be attending this Tuesday, June 3rd. We will depart from school at 8:30 AM and return by 3:00 PM. Please ensure your child has a ride home, as they will not be taking the bus that day.
If you requested a school-provided lunch, your child will receive it upon arrival at the aquarium. If not, please send your child with a bagged lunch. Students will not need to bring any money, as they will not be purchasing food or items from the gift shop during the trip.
Students who are not attending the trip will follow their regular school schedule. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
OBLIGATIONS
As we approach the end of the school year, please check PowerSchool for any outstanding student obligations. Most obligations are related to field trip balances, Chromebook damages or replacements, and library books. Payments can be made in the Main Office.
Grade 8 families: To ensure there are no delays in receiving Promotion tickets, we kindly ask that all obligations be submitted as soon as possible. Fees can be paid with cash or money order. Personal checks will not be accepted.
Grade 6 and 7 families: Staying current with obligations now helps prevent balances from carrying over into next year. We encourage families to take care of any outstanding items before summer break.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE
Medication Pick-Up
If your student has medications kept in the nurse's office they need to be picked up by the end of the school year. Please let the nurse know if you plan to pick them up in person or if you would like the medication sent home with your child. Any controlled medication needs to be picked up by families and signed for. Please know that medications cannot be left at the school over the summer. Any medication that has not been picked up by the last day of school will be disposed of per the Norwalk Public School policy. If you have not contacted the nurse yet please do so to make arrangements for the medication to go home.
For those whose students require mandated physicals or sports physicals, please see attached flyer. Please include in parentsquare communications and principal updates; we have included this in this week's board update. Last summer this was the #1 referral source for families seeking out physicals before the beginning of the school year.
