Hello West Rocks!

I hope everyone had a great week as we close out the weekend and the month of May. Even though it was a four-day week, we packed in a lot!

Congratulations to our West Rocks Intramural Soccer Team for winning the championship! This makes three years in a row! Check out highlights using the link above and on our social media pages.

Our grade 8 students completed their Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) test this week. They began the test on Wednesday and finished on Thursday, which means our state standardized testing is officially complete. Some of our 8th graders will still take a Spanish final exam and the Algebra exam as part of determining high school credit.

Our grade 6 students also had their annual field trip to Club Getaway! Students had a great day building teamwork, taking on challenges like the zipline, collaborating with classmates, and having fun together outside of the classroom. More highlights from our trips will be shared on social media this week, so stay tuned!

Congratulations to our grade 7 and 8 band, orchestra, and chorus students for their performances at the Trills and Thrills Music Festival on Friday. This festival is held annually at Chicopee High School in Massachusetts. Each group improved its score from last year, and our band was rated “Superior,” which is the highest possible rating! Students also enjoyed the remainder of the day at Six Flags New England.

Finally, attendance matters! As we get closer to the end of the school year, every day still counts. Please help your student finish strong by being in school, on time, and ready to learn each day.

VPA UPDATES

A FEW TICKETS LEFT!!!

The WRMS VPA Program is excited to host a community trip to Wicked on Broadway on Thursday, June 4th. The trip is open to any WRMS student, staff, or family member! The price is $200 per person and it includes bus transportation and ticket to the 7pm show. We have amazing seats in the orchestra!

GRADE 7 UPDATES

We are excited to announce an upcoming field trip for our 7th-grade students to Norwalk High School on Thursday, June 4th!

This trip is a wonderful extension of our recent curriculum. Our 7th graders read the inspiring book We Beat the Street, and during this visit, they will have the incredible opportunity to attend a presentation by Dr. Hunt, one of the doctors featured in the book. Following the presentation, there will be a Question and Answer session where students can engage directly with Dr. Hunt.

Trip Details & Schedule:

Date: Thursday, June 4th
Departure from West Rocks: 9:45 AM
Return to West Rocks: 12:45 PM
Lunch Information: Students will be back at West Rocks in time for their regularly scheduled lunch period.

GRADE 6 UPDATES

We had a fantastic day at Club Getaway! Students enjoyed a full day of outdoor activities, team-building experiences, and opportunities to create lasting memories with each other. Thank you to our students and staff for helping make the trip such a success.

As our students prepare to transition into 7th grade, we are already looking ahead to some of the incredible milestones awaiting them next school year. We are thrilled to introduce a unique educational opportunity: the Grade 7 Outdoor Classroom trip!

This immersive, hands-on learning experience is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14th through Friday, October 16th.

To share all the exciting details regarding the curriculum, logistics, and safety, we invite you to join us for a brief virtual informational meeting.

During this session, we will provide an overview of the trip and discuss what students can expect. Students will have a similar meeting during the school day on Monday and will come home with an informational packet.
