I hope everyone is enjoying an amazing Memorial Day weekend! At a ceremony I attended today, a veteran shared there is no "Happy Memorial Day." It is a day for gratitude and remembrance. Memorial Day is a time for us to pause and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Thank you. We did have a great week as we close in on final days of the 2024-25 school year! Believe it or not, we have 14 school days left. Our 8th graders have only 10 school days left until Promotion on June 9! 8th Grade ELA students at West Rocks Middle School delved into the muralist movement through the WestEd curriculum this spring. Class discussions sparked a keen interest in Norwalk's local murals. Friday, students had the exciting opportunity to meet Norwalk native and talented artist, @5ivefingaz. His story is special, specifically since he grew up in Norwalk and went through Norwalk Public Schools! His message of LOVE MORE THAN EVER rings true. Thank you to our district's MLL (Multilingual Language Learner) Department for funding this amazing experience! Shout-out to Ms. Valente for organizing this experience! Check out the video using the link above!Our 8th graders also took their NGSS assessment this week! They definitely "smashed the test" as our initial results show significant gains! We are super proud of them as this was a tough 3 weeks! Some even earned extra recess on Friday afternoon! Congratulations to the WRMS Marching Band for their performance in today's parade! As always, the "sea of green" was in full effect in front of the city! We are always the biggest (and best) middle school band. Thank you to our director Mrs. Jean and our students! FOOTBALL TEAM VISITS
UConn and Wake Forest football players, including WRMS (2018) and NHS (2022) alumni Zach Christinat (UCONN) & Sebastien Pierre (Wake Forest), returned to West Rocks Middle School this week to inspire students with stories of hard work, perseverance, and chasing big dreams. They led drills, shared their journeys, and emphasized the power of academics and surrounding yourself with the right people. Students left motivated, believing they too could reach Division I with the right mindset and support.

CHROMEBOOK COLLECTION - END OF YEAR REMINDER
As we wrap up the school year, all students are required to return their Chromebook and charger on the scheduled collection day. Please note that lost chargers will incur a $15 replacement fee. Devices will be checked by IT for any damages.
Collection Dates:
- Grade 8: May 28
- Grade 7: June 11
- Grade 6: June 12
Please ensure devices are clean and free of stickers and any markings. There will be an opportunity for students to pick up a device during the summer if one is needed to complete summer learning. STUDENT FEES
As we approach the end of the school year, please check PowerSchool for any outstanding student obligations. Most obligations are related to field trip balances, Chromebook damages or replacements, and library books. Payments can be made in the Main Office.
Grade 8 families: To ensure there are no delays in receiving Promotion tickets, we kindly ask that all obligations be submitted as soon as possible.
Grade 6 and 7 families: Staying current with obligations now helps prevent balances from carrying over into next year. We encourage families to take care of any outstanding items before summer break.

We're excited to announce that Outdoor Classroom (formerly Nature’s Classroom) has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 5th through Friday, November 7th for Grade 7 students! Students will be heading to Camp Eisner in Great Barrington, MA for an unforgettable educational adventure!

GRADE 7
Grade 7 students who signed up for the Bronx Zoo trip will be going this Wednesday, May 28th. We will be ready to leave school at 8:30am ad return at 3:00pm. Please make sure students have a ride home that day since they will not be able to take the bus. Any student not attending the trip will follow their regular school schedule. Please reach out if you have any questions.

9 days left until Promotion!!!! A few reminders...
Promotion RAFFLE!
Each family gets 3 tickets to the Promotion ceremony. If you would like the chance to win more, we are holding a raffle. There will be 5 winners selected. Each winner receives an additional 2 tickets to the ceremony. Tickets can be purchased from Dr. Golding for $5 each. Students can purchase during the day or families can stop in to buy. The drawing will be Wednesday, June 4th on YouTube.
Permission Slip - Pre-Promotion Party and Promotion Practice!
Please complete this form for both events. There is no cost for either, but your child cannot attend without the form being completed.
Pre-Promotion Party
We are in need of donations, especially DINNER and volunteers for the party on Friday, June 6th. We need food for 250 people. You can access the sign-up sheet here. We need every family to help out. Donations cannot be brought in until the day of the event. If you wish to make a cash donation, please Venmo Kate Africano HERE. If you wish to purchase an item from our Wish List, you can do so here.
FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE - NURSE MICHELLE
If your student has medications kept in the nurse's office they need to be picked up by the end of the school year. Please let the nurse know if you plan to pick them up in person or if you would like the medication sent home with your child. Any controlled medication needs to be picked up by parent and signed for. Please know that medications cannot be left at the school over the summer. Any medication that has not been picked up by the last day of school will be disposed of per the Norwalk Public School policy.
