Weekly Update 3/30/24

Weekly Update 3/30/24
WRMS Staff

Hello West Rocks!

I hope you are having a great holiday weekend! We had another busy week…even though it was a little short.
Our string ensemble, jazz band, drama club, and Rocky the Panther visited our three feeder elementary schools this week! Some pictures are included above. Next year’s grade 6 counselor Ms. Simone, Dual Language Coordinator Mrs. Chimento, and I joined them to create some excitement around the transition to West Rocks! Our were so proud to perform in their elementary schools. In addition to providing information about the programs and school day, we made sure to invite them to our PTA’s Pizza Truck Event on May 4th! SAVE THE DATE!

Thank you to those families who completed the Family Panorama Survey. We had about 20% of our families that completed it. The survey is given to students, staff, and families once per year. We use this information to help determine the effectiveness of some programs as well as drive future decisions. It is a key measure within our school improvement plan as well.

Students will take the NWEA map test starting next Tuesday. They will take the ELA Reading portion on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week during an extended homeroom period. This test is very important – not only to show growth over the course of the year, but it is used in placement for next year’s classes. This includes 8th graders going to high school as well as our 6th and 7th graders for summer academy and gifted and talented. Students should come prepared with a charged Chromebook each morning.

Q3 closes this week. Please check the PowerSchool Parent Portal for grades and assignments. Teachers will be reviewing current progress with students.

Have a great rest of the weekend,
Adam Reynolds
Principal, West Rocks Middle School
PS. GO HUSKIES!
