Weekly Update 12/16/23

Weekly Update 12/16/23
WRMS Staff

Hello West Rocks!

We had another busy week as we continue to get ready for winter break! CGS, P-Tech, and other regional high schools visited our grade 8 students on Tuesday. It was great to see how focused and engaged students were during the presentations. Multiple groups complimented the grade level as “one of the best groups” they have visited this year!

The chorus and members of the string ensemble had two wonderful performances on Wednesday – for students at an assembly during the day and at night for families and the community! Thank you to the Chorus Director Dr. Sara Golding and Orchestra Director Glen Ullman for their hard work with our students. Great job!

Thursday and Friday were filled with a variety of happenings – locker clean out, our Sport-a-Thon top earners got their “pizza party,” and the week concluded with last night’s movie night!

One week to go…and it’s Spirit Week sponsored by our Student Council. Check out the schedule below for the activities during the week. We will be selling WRMS T-shirts during lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday for $15 in preparation for Thursday!

We will have our annual door decorating contest as homerooms compete for the top honors and as well as our grade level quarter one PAWS awards on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Have a great rest of the weekend,
Adam Reynolds
Principal, West Rocks Middle School

PS. This Friday, December 22 is a full day of school. Students are dismissed at 2:50pm.

EVENTS AND GROUPS

PAWS Quarter 1 In-Person Award Ceremonies
This week we will have our Q1 PAWS Awards by grade level. Teachers have nominated 40 students in each grade level to earn awards based on our school-wide expectations: (P)ositive Interactions, (A)ccountability, (W)illingness, and (S)afety. Families of students that will be receiving an award received an email from the grade level team leader earlier this week inviting them in for the in-person ceremony held in the auditorium.

  • Tuesday, Dec 19: Grade 7 @ 8:30am (Questions – Rebecca Sabol sabolr@norwalkps.org)
  • Wednesday, Dec 20: Grade 6 @ 8:30am (Questions – Dee Walters waltersd@norwalkps.org)
  • Thursday, Dec 21: Grade 8 @ 8:30am (Questions – Sara Golding goldings@norwalkps.org)

Ski & Snowboarding Club Winter 2024

The club will take 1 day trip to Mohawk Mountain on Saturday, February 3. The bus will leave at 6:30am and return around 8:00pm. Students can participate in the 3 afternoon trips, the 1 day trip, or both.
Students must complete all components to register for the trip(s) – NPS/WRMS online permission slip, online portal registration through Mt. Southington and/or Mohawk Mountain, and turn in payment to the office.

Scholastic Book Fair Thank You from LMS Sandy Mackowski
Thank you to all the West Rock families for supporting our Fall Scholastic Book Fair. It was a great success and so much fun to have with the kids. There is nothing quite like the joy you see children experience when they find that special book to read and cherish from attending a book fair. We are always grateful for your help as a school and hope that your children enjoyed the event. See you in the Spring for the next one!
