Hello West Rocks!

It’s been another exciting and productive week at West Rocks!

Congratulations to the West Rocks Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society!

Congrats to all our newly inducted members of the National Junior Honor Society! Wednesday night’s ceremony was a wonderful celebration of scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. We are so proud of these students and the example they set for our school community. Check out the pictures above!

Join Us for the Making Strides Walk (TODAY, Sunday, October 19)

The West Rocks Pink Panthers will be walking in this morning in the Making Strides Event at Sherwood Island. Please consider joining the team! We will meet for a group photo at 9:45am by the pink truck! 

Event Details:

  • Sherwood Island, Westport

  • 9:00-noon (Walk starts at 10:00 AM)

  • Rain or shine

  • Well-behaved dogs welcome!

  • Free onsite parking. Handicap accessible

PTA Halloween Dance: Friday, October 24
Mark your calendars! The PTA Halloween Dance will be held this Friday from 7:00-9:00 PM in the gym. Costumes are encouraged and concessions will be available. Thank you to our PTA for organizing this fun event for our students.

Athletics Update
Our travel and intramural teams are off to a great start! Congratulations to our flag football and floor hockey players for their energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Keep up the great work representing West Rocks!

Academic and SEL Focus
With just a few weeks left in the first quarter, we encourage all students to stay focused, continue their hard work, and take pride in their progress. Our teachers and SEL Team are continuing Year 2 of RULER, reinforcing emotional vocabulary through the Mood Meter and practicing the Meta Moment to help students pause, reflect, and respond thoughtfully throughout the day.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we move into the final stretch of the first quarter. We’re proud of our students’ accomplishments both in and out of the classroom!

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

West Rocks’ Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign

We are excited to announce the launch of our annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, dedicated to raising awareness, promoting early detection, and supporting those affected by breast cancer within our middle school community. This year's campaign will officially kick off on October 1st and will run throughout the entire month of October.

How to Get Involved:

There are many ways your family can participate and make a difference:

  • Wear Pink on Fridays: Join us every Friday in October by wearing pink to show your support. We will continue on October 24th and 31st.

  • Purchase Pink Merchandise: Pink t-shirts and bracelets will be sold during lunch periods. All proceeds will go towards supporting breast cancer awareness initiatives.

  • Participate in the Making Strides Walk: Our school will be participating in the Making Strides walk this Sunday, October 19th at Sherwood Island. We encourage families and students to join our team or donate to cancer research by visiting: WRMS Pink Panthers. We have raised $874! Help us reach our goal! 

DRAMA CLUB

Congratulations to all the students who submitted videos and completed the audition process. The final cast list can be found on the Drama Club’s Google Classroom. Students interested in backstage crew should complete the form on the Google Classroom for Drama Club. Please refer to the calendar for the upcoming rehearsals. The calendar for the club can be found here. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 21st. Please also note that we will have a virtual meeting for families on Thursday, Oct. 23rd at 6:30pm. You can access the Google Meet HERE. Families and students can subscribe to the calendar to have it embedded in their digital calendars. Families can direct questions to Dr. Golding at goldings@norwalkps.org

ESPORTS CLUB

The Esports Club has a few spots open!

  • When:  Afterschool from 3 to 5pm on Tuesday and/or Thursdays

  • Where: Verizon Innovative Learning Lab - Room 188

We will be competing using the Minecraft Education Esports Program this year. Students will unleash their creativity in ready-made immersive Minecraft worlds designed to support learning through team build battles and role-based strategy games. Each of these inspiring worlds is designed to encourage team-building skills, such as collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills, through STEM-based competitions.

VPA UPDATES

Our band students had a great visit with members of the NHS Band. They were able to hear the students play and speak about their experiences in high school and in band. Our 8th graders even got to learn how to march! Opportunities like this are great for students to learn about the programs at the high school and see the possibilities that exist for them as future musicians. A special thanks to Mrs. Jean for making this event possible.

Halloween Dance – October 24🎃

Our Halloween Dance is scheduled for Friday, October 24 from 5–7 PM. 

  • Tickets will be on sale online and during lunch the week of October 20th.

  • A signed permission slip is needed to purchase a ticket. Students can get a permission slip during lunch starting Monday, 10/20.

  • Costumes are optional. 

  • Concessions & Raffle tickets will be available for purchase.

We’re are collecting donations and looking for volunteers to help make the night a success. 

Donations can be dropped off to the main office marked PTA.
