Weekly Update 10/12/25

Weekly Update 10/12/25
WRMS Staff

Hello West Rocks!

What a week! From our sea of pink on Friday to an exciting soccer showdown, it’s been a great stretch of learning, celebration, and Panther Pride.

Schedule Reminder
Please note that there is no school on Monday, October 13 in observance of the holiday, and no school for students on

Tuesday, October 14 due to a full day of professional learning for staff. Classes will resume on Wednesday, October 15.

Dismissal Procedure Update
Thank you to all families for your continued patience and cooperation during dismissal. To help us keep things safe and efficient, we ask that drivers please find an available parking spot instead of forming a waiting line in the main parking lot. These spots will either be in the Aiken Street lot or the lot further down by the turf. Please do not wait in line.

In the mornings, you’ll also notice that the drop-off location has been moved slightly farther down the driveway to allow more students to exit their vehicles safely and quickly. Also, please follow the flow of traffic instead of cutting through the parking lot. Thank you for your attention to these updates and for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe for everyone.

Highlights from This Week
We were proud to see a sea of pink on Friday as students and staff came together for our 8th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. Thank you for showing your support and school spirit!

  • Our second annual Staff vs. Students Soccer Game was another success! Thank you to Mrs. Chimento, our Dual Language Coordinator, and the entire department for organizing such an incredible event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship on the field were outstanding.

    • Check out footage from News Channel 12 and highlights from the game HERE.

    • Check out our social media accounts for more coverage from the game and a few pictures above!

  • We also received positive press in The Norwalk Hour! Roz McCarthy, a former NPS administrator, recently visited our SEL Team to learn more about the great work happening through our RULER program.

    • Check out the article from The Hour HERE.

Board of Education Town Hall
We also had a successful Board of Education meeting this week about the proposal for West Rocks to be one of the next new schools to be built. Thank you to everyone who attended in person after the PTA meeting and to those who participated virtually. Your support and engagement mean a great deal as we look ahead to an exciting future for our school community.

Be sure to scroll through the remainder of this communication for additional updates, reminders, and upcoming events.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Have a safe and enjoyable reset on this long weekend!

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

West Rocks’ Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign

We are excited to announce the launch of our annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, dedicated to raising awareness, promoting early detection, and supporting those affected by breast cancer within our middle school community. This year's campaign will officially kick off on October 1st and will run throughout the entire month of October.

How to Get Involved:

There are many ways your family can participate and make a difference:

  • Wear Pink on Fridays: Join us every Friday in October by wearing pink to show your support. We will continue on October 17th, 24th, and 31st.

  • Purchase Pink Merchandise: Pink t-shirts and bracelets will be sold during lunch periods. All proceeds will go towards supporting breast cancer awareness initiatives.

  • Participate in the Making Strides Walk: Our school will be participating in the Making Strides walk on October 19th at Sherwood Island. We encourage families and students to join our team or donate to cancer research by visiting: WRMS Pink Panthers. We have raised $614! Help us reach our goal!

We encourage everyone in our middle school community to participate in this vital campaign. Together, we can make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer.

The Dual Language Department is sponsoring a trip for all 8th graders! We will be visiting two of our nation’s most famous landmarks: The Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island Museum in New York.  The trip is open to ALL 8th grade students.  If you are interested please read the flyer and fill out the Statue of Liberty Field Trip  DL Permission Slip.  Please reach out to Sra. DRAMA CLUB

Students who are involved in the audition process for Drama Club can access materials on the Drama Club’s Google Classroom.

Callbacks were announced on Friday. Students will attend that session on Wednesday, Oct. 15th. The final cast list will be posted on Friday, Oct. 22nd. If students do not get a callback, it does not mean that they do not have a part. We only call back for 4 major roles. Students interested in backstage crew should complete the form on the Google Classroom for Drama Club. Please refer to the calendar for the upcoming rehearsals. The calendar for the club can be found here and is up to date with callbacks and a family meeting. Families and students can subscribe to the calendar to have it embedded in their digital calendars. Families can direct questions to Dr. Golding at goldings@norwalkps.org

Our Flag Football and Floor Hockey Travel Teams continue their season in the upcoming weeks. Come out and cheer on our teams at our remaining two home games. Students are only allowed to attend away games at other schools if they are accompanied by an adult.
