SGC Meeting Agendas 2021-2022

Agenda: 

  • Review specific lines in the budget
  • Discuss how the allotment will support our vision, specifically our School Improvement Plan so I can share our ideas with Central Office the following morning.

Agenda: 

This meeting replaced the April meeting. Below please find the budget information that was gone over. 

It was held in two parts - part one reviewed the budget expectation and part two was in breakout rooms discussing the role of the SGC in general for new members of the board. 

The PowerPoint that the NPS CFO Mr. Lunda Asmani reviewed during the meeting is attached. 

  • Slides 16-23 are more specific to this year's budget, including magnet funding numbers for those returning members. 
  • Please note WRMS requested over $300,000 for our magnet program (dual language) and are receiving $87,000. We plan to supplement that amount to hire another Spanish Language Arts teacher.
  • The WRMS budget meeting is scheduled for 5/19 at 8:00 am with the Finance Department and other members of Central Office.

February 9, 2022

Agenda:

Maritime Aquarium Partnership

  • ​​​​Who: All members of the WRMS community
  • What: 30 minutes of information, 30 minutes experiencing the best exhibits in Maritime (seals, meerkats, jellyfish, touch tanks...etc.)
  • Where: Maritime Aquarium 10 N Water St, Norwalk, CT 06854 
    • Parking: The parking garage is across the street is the easiest place to park, the rate is $2-3. There is some metered parking on the street as well.
  • When: 6:30-7:30  (Please arrive between 6:00-6:30 and meet in the lobby. Staff will escort everyone to a designated room on the 3rd floor.)
  • Why: The purpose is to share how this partnership will benefit students at WRMS. Maritime staff will provide an overview of the program then provide examples of partnerships they have had with other schools and districts. We will then project what that would look like at West Rocks with a question and answer session.

  • The vision of the district for middle school choice and programming moving forward
  • WRMS Partnership with Maritime Aquarium - marine science pathway starting Fall of 2022
    • January meeting to be held at Maritime!

  • Finalize plans to engage families (date, time, roles) based on brainstorm session from School Improvement Plan

November 15, 2021

NPS is partnering with the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) to provide important training to members of Norwalk’s School Governance Councils.

Agenda:

  • An overview of the NPS Strategic Plan
  • An introduction to School Governance Councils, including a discussion of relevant state laws that apply to SGC operations.
  • Lessons learned from other councils that will help your SGC be as effective as possible. 

October 13, 2021

Agenda:

  • Review responsibilities of the SGC using the attached policy. 
    • It is from the State of CT as opposed to Norwalk, so it is slightly different for our returning members. 
  • Analyze the SBAC achievement data released in the summer.
  • Review the current NWEA (map) data from last week.
  • Read/revise the draft of our 2021-2022 school improvement plan (academic, supportive environment, equity).
  • Discuss the possibility of a focus on marine science in the future.
  • Answer any questions, other topics from members.
